What attributes would they have? If you’ve never thought about this, I’m going to encourage you to do so.

I even have a client who created this list for herself, then incorporated it into her opportunity commercial at her parties, saying, “I’m building an amazing team of women who are strong, independent, fun, positive and successful. I know that each and every one of you here in this room tonight has all of these attributes, even though you might not always tap into them. I’d love to visit with you about how this business could booste your confidence and just possibly change your life.”

By stating this up front during her party, she empowers them to want to be all of those things and to want to join her team to be a part of exploring those aspects of themselves. It’s brilliant and it’s working for her. She’s a top recruiter in her company.

If there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that energy flows where attention goes. It’s a simple fact that you get what you focus on. Think about it. Are you constantly complaining about your unmotivated, draining, frustrating team? Guess who you’ll be attracting from that energy flow? You guessed it; more unmotivated, draining, people. Ouch!

Doesn’t it makes sense that the more focused and clear you are about who you want to be attracting into your business, the more likely you’ll be to attract people with those very attributes? So let’s decide what you want, not focus on what you don’t want, shall we?

Take a moment and do this short exercise. First of all, ask yourself the question, “Who is my ideal team member?” Make a list with at least five adjectives that best describe that person. And don’t be conservative. Remember, this is your ideal person.

Now read over the list you just created. Who wold you say those words describe at their best? YOU, right? Of course! So, here’s the point. When you’re truly showing up at your best, the energy you’re putting out will attract others like you…at your best. Get it?

Finally, write out the list you made and put it up on the wall in your office. I’d like to invite you to take about two minutes at the beginning and ending of each day to read over the list and then close your eyes and visualize yourself standing in front of a huge team of people with all those attributes at your next meeting. Feel the feelings of being their leader. Just do this visualization for the next 30 days, twice a day, and watch what starts to happen. You’ll be amazed!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a coach, it’s the fact that the words you choose matter. So often, we don’t communicate our intentions and expectations clearly, and then we wonder why we’re not getting the results we desire.

As a direct seller, I learned very quickly that my success or failure with a host depended greatly on how I set that host up the night they booked their party with me. That meant clear, precise communication with them right from the beginning. If you’re clear with the host about your commitment to them and what they’ll need to do in order to have a successful party, you’ll find your parties holding on their original dates with hosts who are on board and enthusiastic about creating a successful evening for you.

I’ve created a special report with the three things you’ll want to cover to ensure this success as well as some specific language to communicate what you want.

Click here to access this report and learn exactly what to say to get your new hosts committed and excited right from the beginning!

I’m passionate about topic of host coaching because I truly believe it’s the reason I was successful in my direct sales business. I began host coaching with my very first host and many of those hosts are still friends to this day. I know it’s because of the time we had to build that relationship over a cup of coffee or a focused phone call. When your host is committed to you and likes you based on the time you spend building a relationship with her, she’ll be more likely to support you as a partner and put true effort into her party.

The key to success in our profession is creating connections with people. If you’ve looked at host coaching (up to this point) as a chore or one more thing to add to your “list” of things to do, I want to invite you to change your perspective. What if someone paid you to go have coffee or a friendly chat on the phone with a friend? Would you sign up for that? Sure you would! (Especially if it had a significant positive effect on your business, from fewer cancellations to higher attendance and sales).

That’s exactly what host coaching should be. A time to chat, get to know your host, and plan an incredible, fun party experience based on that connection and what you learn about her. The format is simple:

A few moments of connection time

About 10-15 minutes of planning (teach her the language for inviting guests over the phone and getting outside orders, decide on her theme, and let her know what you need from her the night of the party)

Set her “go girl goals” for bookings, guest attendance and outside orders

Share your opportunity and offer to set up her party as her kick off show .

If you use this format and show up open to building a friendship as well as supporting your host, you’ll be amazed at what will happen in your business!

I’m sure you’ve heard that the “fortune is in the follow-up” right? Well, I know it’s true. I’ve been called the “follow-up queen” for years, simply because I always call when I say I’m going to, and I keep following up until someone tells me to stop calling. This approach had supported my success for years.

With your hosts, follow up will help to solidify their commitment to you and it will position you as someone who genuinely cares about them and their party. Effective follow-up preserves future business and prevents cancellations. Hosts will promote you and commit to you after they experience your professionalism and your commitment to them with the personal way you follow up with them.

The truth is that approximately 1/3 of all hosts cancel or postpone; 1/3 are thinking about it; and 1/3 would never let someone down & not be of their word. So, it’s important to connect with that 2/3 that might cancel. That’s where follow up comes in!

Our “Coaching Your Host For Maximum Success” program teaches a specific follow up system that’s easy to implement. Click here to download my special report “The Follow-Up Two Step” to learn it for yourself. It’s simple and you’ll be amazed at the results it will create for you.

Make Your Spring Break or Summer Travel Pay Off By Spreading the Word!

What’s the best way to spread the word about your business? First, you have to be passionate about what you do and about sharing it with others. Be sure you’re clear about why you love your job before you pack for your next trip. The more passionate you are, the more you’ll actually want to share!

Here are some tips for starting that conversation:

Find a conversation starter that leads to your product.

Carry a purse that lets you display on the outside pictures of your products.

Wear Your Products if that’s appropriate.

Have catalogs and brochures handy to leave in hotel rooms, along with tips, etc.

Find out what service people love most about their jobs (ask that question, “so, Sue, what do you love most about being a waitress?”) Chances are, they’ll begin to tell you what they love least about it instead, which can lead to a recruiting conversation.

Create a survey with some questions about how they feel about their current job situation. Tell them you’re collecting information for a work project and ask if they’d take 60 seconds and do a survey with them. Then share with them how much easier/more lucrative your job is before leaving them with some information.

Some sample questions:

How many hours per week do you work?

On a scale of 1-10, 1 being not satisfied and 10 being totally satisfied, how happy are you with your current income level from your job?

Have you ever considered working from home?

Be sure you have plenty of business cards and brochures with your website address so that they can visit it to learn more. Also, be sure you get their information so you can follow up with them once you return from your vacation.
